The Salvation Army, as a church and registered charity, is one of the country's largest providers of support to people with the greatest levels of social disadvantage in our country. We provide debt counselling services, run food banks, provide night shelters for homeless people and support people get into long term employment. We provide 3,080 places every night for people experiencing homelessness.
The Scotland Office is working to raise the profile of The Salvation Army in various ways in the political arenas which exist in Scotland. Our aim is to raise awareness of the work of The Salvation Army, to have opportunity to influence policy and legislation in a way that will make a difference to the lives of the people who are using our services throughout Scotland. We do this by developing contacts with MSPs, civil servants, government ministers, secure opportunities to participate in relevant cross party groups and lobby politicians in support of our policies.
Key Responsibilities: We are looking for an experienced Public Affairs Advisor who will have a leading role in developing stronger relationships for The Salvation Army with MSPs and will assist in the development of a new public affairs strategy in Scotland. You will share our passion for social justice and be an effective relationship builder and negotiator.
The successful candidate(s) will have:- A degree level qualification or equivalent.- Experience working for a member of parliament and have considerable expertise in how parliamentary procedure can be used to further campaigns. - Policy experience in any of these three areas - homelessness, modern slavery or universal credit would be an advantage.
